Experiencing Community Resilience & Sustainability – Germany November 2025

In a time when social workers must navigate global crises - from climate change to conflict and displacement – this seminar equips students with the emotional strength, self-awareness, and crisis-resilient communication skills needed to act with clarity and integrity.

A highlight of the module was an inspiring experiential week in November on “Community Resilience & Sustainability,” led by Prof. Dr. Hannah Reich and implemented in cooperation with the Bergwald Projekt e.V. For one transformative week, MRM students, studying at THWS in Würzburg, stepped out of the classroom and into the Spessart forest, planting trees, restoring woodland ecosystems, and learning directly from the rhythms of nature. Working side by side in an international and intercultural group, students discovered how embodied experience, teamwork, and the wisdom of the forest can deepen resilience and spark new perspectives on community resilience and community empowerment and learned how challenges can be transformed into community bounds. This powerful outdoor retreat fostered professional competencies, as much as connection, and a renewed sense of purpose—reminding us that caring for communities begins with caring for ourselves and the environment.
