Embodiment, Sustainability and Intercultural Exchange

As part of the ThRIvE project – Creative Arts for Sustainable Futures, several international seminars and mobility programmes took place between 2023 and 2025. The aim was to develop sustainable future prospects through creative arts, social innovation and intercultural exchange. Students and professionals from Germany, Lebanon and Jordan worked together in various formats to explore topics such as sustainability, community wellbeing, youth empowerment and peacebuilding in a practical way. Creative Arts for Sustainable Futures and Leading from within: Stepping into Co-Creation - Germany Arpil 2025

The ThRIvE mobility “Creative Arts for Sustainable Futures & Building Peace: Stepping into Co-Creation” took place from April 23–30, 2025, at THWS in Würzburg. Students from Lebanon, Jordan, and Germany engaged in workshops and excursions exploring the intersections of sustainability and creativity. Highlights included a four-day visit to Schloss Blumenthal, hands-on learning with environmental projects, and the production of personal short films. The seminar fostered intercultural exchange and introduced innovative tools for social transformation, community building, and empowerment.

Resilienz, Empowerment and Community Well-being - Germany December 2024

Between December 5–11, 2024, the ThRIvE mobility on “Resilience, Empowerment & Collective Wellbeing” took place in Würzburg. Five students from Lebanon, accompanied by two supervisors, joined twenty master’s students from THWS to explore resilience and self-care in intercultural contexts. Through workshops such as Dragon Dreaming, Deep Democracy, and mindfulness training (MBSR), participants practiced new approaches to empowerment, sustainable project planning, and conflict resolution. A migration-themed city tour and cultural exchange further enriched the program, offering valuable insights for their future work as social workers.

Sustainable Futures and Collective Well-Being: Social Entrepreneurship and the Power of Adaptability - Germany September 2024

Between July and September 2024, a blended-learning summer school brought together THWS master’s students, as well as Lebanese (MUBS) and Jordanian (GJU) students, to explore social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and adaptability.

Due to the political situation in the Middle East, the planned trip to Jordan was canceled, and Lebanese students could not travel to Germany. Five Jordanian students joined the THWS students in Würzburg, participating in workshops at Schloss Tempelhof on creative methods and intercultural exchange. The program concluded with an online conference on Anti-Oppressive Practice, providing participants with new tools for sustainable social work.

Creative Arts for Sustainable Futures from Problems to Possibilities - Germany June 2024

Between May 30 and June 4, 2024, students from Lebanon, Jordan, and THWS came together in Würzburg to explore creative and sustainable methods for social change. Through a mix of practical workshops and experiential learning, participants gained insights into innovative approaches to community building and sustainability. The mobility included two and a half days at Schloss Tonndorf, where students experienced sustainable living and intercultural exchange, and concluded with online presentations of their dream projects.

Youth Empowerment in Lebanon - September 2023

From September 3–9, 2024, students and professionals from Lebanon and Jordan came together at MUBS in Lebanon to explore creative social work interventions focused on youth empowerment. Through workshops, NGO visits, excursions, and cultural activities, they gained practical insights into Youth Friendly Services and the role of social work in crises. The program fostered collaboration, critical thinking, and fresh perspectives, motivating participants to strengthen youth empowerment in their communities.

Communitiy Well-being and Sustainablitiy in the Migration Society - Empowering Youth - Germany May 2023

From May 12–21, 2023, the first ThRIvE project activity took place in Würzburg, Germany. Nine students from Lebanon and Jordan, accompanied by lecturers, joined THWS students to explore creative approaches in social work with youth, aiming to foster social cohesion and wellbeing.

Through workshops on interactive theater, adventure education, sustainability, migration education, and integration through sports, participants discovered methods they later applied in their home countries. The week also encouraged personal and cultural exchange as well as joint explorations of Würzburg.
